The home button assembly is attached to the front panel with some adhesive. The use of an iOpener to soften the adhesive is highly recommended. Without touching the front of the LCD, lift the LCD off the front panel.
Slide the pick along the front panel, towards the home button, to continue separating the home button ribbon cable from the front panel. Again, be sure to only slide the pick toward the center of the iPad when it is fully inserted; otherwise you may damage the antenna beneath the glass. Continue to slide the pick down the right edge of the iPad, releasing the adhesive.

But you're going to want to be very careful as if you damage the turtle IC chip in the home button, you can't repair it and that's what I mean when you will lose touchID. That button is paired or programmed specifically to that device's board. Even if you had a genuine button from another device, it will tell you touchID cannot be verified.

Leave the picks in place, reheat, and reapply the iOpener to the problem areas, and run a pick through the sticking point one more time. If you need to slide the pick over the lower section more than once, remove it and re-insert at the outer edge, and slide inwards. It may require some force to get the wedged tip of the opening tool between the glass and plastic. Work patiently and carefully, wiggling the plastic opening tool back and forth as necessary. Insert the tip of a plastic opening tool into the gap between the front glass and the plastic bezel. Just insert the very tip of the opening tool, just enough to widen the crack. The issue seemed to be with a set of contacts on the new digitizer, they had a piece of the orangey tape over them, which i removed. On the original, broken one, it had black fabric tape over the copper contacts. The contacts are to the left of the home button when looking at the back of the digitizer, they are both on the home button ribbon cable, one is rectangular and one is square. I put standard electrical tape over both of these and it appears to have fixed the problem.
Use the flat end of a spudger to pry the LCD shield plate up and out of the iPad. Slide the tip of a spudger between the LCD and the adhesive tabs to free the display. Gently pull the LCD away from the speakers to separate the tape, being careful not to pull on the digitizer cable. Use a thin, flexible card or plastic money note to cut through the adhesive starting from the top. Be very careful not to get the spudger under the shield plate.

Hi all, I followed the instruction here on ifixit.com and I can tell you that you guys are doing an amazing job. After trying to replace he digitizer for the first time and rushed the LCD removal a little bit, resulted in a cracked LCD. I ordered another one and went through complete tear down here and finally my iPad is fixed. When out of the iPad everything works as it should but when I place the digitizer back in the case it acts as if someone was touching the screen in random places.
